Have a good look at the following areas of your business and see whether you can make some improvements on them to realize growth.
1) Your market: What is your current market that you serve? Do you only rely on those customers coming to you? Can you go out and look for them instead? Who are your main customers? Do not restrict the market that you serve, look around and find ways of accessing other markets. Consider selling in bulk to institutions and corporate organizations. Look for tenders as these are normally advertised. These are areas that are usually ignored, especially by small businesses but which can help in the achieving rapid growth for a business.
2) Your product: Look at the product or service that you offer. Do you have varieties from which customers can choose from? If it is one type of product, is it only of one class? Consider having varieties of the same product. This gives your customers room to choose that which appeals to them most. Find the most popular products in the market and stock them as well.
3) Competition: How well do you understand your competitors? Identify them and find out what they do best than you and make improvements where necessary. Look at what they offer to their customers and find ways of exceeding that which they offer. If it is on pricing, compare the same and find the difference, adjusting your appropriately.
4) Distribution: How do you receive your supplies and at what cost? Do you rely on distributors to provide you with supplies from their stores? Can you obtain your supplies directly the manufacturers? This can save your business on some expenses incurred. If you are a large retailer, can you supply other smaller retailers with products to sell at reasonable prices?
5) Surveys: Carrying out surveys to ascertain what consumers really want is important. You should not just provide your customers with products which they have to buy for lack of an alternative. Go out of your way to find out what their wants are and provide the same. Surveys need not to be expensive. You can simply do this by drafting a simple questionnaire and issuing the same to your customers as they come to shop. You should not ignore any information provided by your customers.
How to make your business grow largely depends on your efforts. Looking at the above issues in your business can go along way in achieving growth for your business. The issues outlined above are not inclusive though. You need to look at other areas of your business that you feel can increase your sales volume.
